Fire burning in Jefferson County 75% contained, US 6 reopens

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A fire burning near Golden Friday afternoon closed U.S. Highway 6 in both directions between Colo. 119 and Colo. 93 Friday, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation, though the road reopened mid-afternoon on Saturday

The Bald Mountain Fire, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, had grown to 25 acres by around 8 p.m., and although no one has been evacuated, pre-evacuation notices have been sent out.

The fire did not grow overnight, according to the Sheriff’s Office, and responders were able to reach 75% containment of the blaze on Saturday.
