DENVER -- A major detour is in place in downtown Denver for at least a month as Xcel Energy works on a large construction project.
The job involves replacing a giant underground steam vault. It's 26 feet below the roadway. Xcel says the vault has been damaged and is in desperate need of repairs.
The repair is being made at Blake and 15th streets in the middle of Lower Downtown.
Blake Street is closed at 15th Street and traffic is being rerouted around the dig.
The job is expected to last about four weeks. The Rockies, who play at Coors Field five blocks away, have 17 home games during that time so traffic will be impacted.
