Woman gets 14 ½ years in prison for Colorado Springs Army veteran’s death

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A woman has been sentenced to 14 ½ years in prison for her role in the fatal shooting of an Army veteran in Colorado Springs.

The Gazette reports 25-year-old Lakela Brasfield was sentenced Wednesday for the May 3 death of 22-year-old Dionte Harris. She struck a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty in January to reckless manslaughter and accessory to murder.

A second-degree murder count was dismissed.

Investigators say Harris, who served as an Army mechanic in 2014 and 2015, was killed at an apartment complex on the east side of Colorado Springs. Arrest affidavits have been sealed.

Two other defendants are awaiting trial on a charge of second-degree murder.
