Tornado flips UPS truck, tears off a roof in Arapahoe County

ARAPAHOE COUNTY -- Strong storms on the Plains east of Denver caused damage in rural parts of Arapahoe County Friday afternoon.

One of three tornadoes that hit the region flipped a UPS delivery truck at the intersection of Arapahoe County Roads 181 and 38. A nearby roof also sustained heavy damage.

Witnesses said the truck was lifted 9-10 feet into the air before it went over onto its nose. The driver was taken from the scene to a hospital. Another UPS driver told FOX31 the driver who was in the truck will be OK.

The intersection is 8 miles south of Byers and 10 miles west of Deer Trail in a rural part of the county.

The tornado also tore part of the roof off of a home near where the UPS truck flipped over. One woman was there and she was not injured. Pets and horses on the property were also OK. A number of people showed up to cover the damaged top of the home with a tarp Friday evening.

The National Weather Service issued several Tornado Warnings for the Plains east of the Denver area.

At least three tornado were confirmed in the area.
