From 2005-2014, Colorado had the third-most lightning-strike fatalities of any state, with 17. Another 15 were injured, according to the National Weather Service.

Overall, 25 million lightning strikes occur every year in the US.

With that in mind, golfers, swimmers and hikers need to know how to stay safe when the skies turn angry.
