Suspect injured in Aurora officer-involved shooting

AURORA, Colo. -- A suspect was injured during an officer-involved shooting on Monday night, the Aurora Police Department said.

The shooting happened about 8 p.m. near North Chambers Road and East Smith Road, police said.

Police were searching for a male suspect who was wanted for serious crimes in Federal Heights Aurora, and officers were led to the area.

The suspect was found to be a passenger in a taxi cab that was traveling south on Chambers just north of the RTD A Line crossing.

As the suspect was attempted to be apprehended, shots were fired, police said. The suspect was hit and taken to a hospital with serious injuries. No officers were injured.

The name and age of the suspect were not released.

Chambers Road between East 32nd Avenue and East Smith Road was closed for several hours as police investigated.

It's not known how many shots were fired or how many officers were involved.
