DENVER -- Two possible suspects were taken into custody after a deadly double shooting near the 16th Street Mall on Wednesday, the Denver Police Department said.

Two victims were taken to the hospital, where one was pronounced dead, police said. There was no word on the other victim's injuries.

Champa Street was closed from 15th to 19th streets, police said just before 3 p.m.

Just before 4 p.m., police said they had two people in custody and that Champa had partially reopened. It remained closed between 15th and 17th.

Police said the possible suspects had tried to leave the area on an RTD bus. Investigators wouldn't comment on what led to the shooting.
