Suspect taken into custody after standoff with Denver police

DENVER -- A man was taken into custody after a standoff with officers on Wednesday morning, the Denver Police Department said.

The incident happened at South Utica Street and West Iowa Avenue.

Police have not said what led to the incident, but the man was wanted on domestic violence charges. Family member were on the street during the standoff.

A SWAT team was called in to negotiate with the man, who barricaded himself in a garage for about two hours. Officers used a megaphone to negotiate with the man.

It's unclear if the man was armed. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

The man was taken into custody about 5:45 a.m. His name and age have not been released.
