BOULDER, Colo. -- A woman said a man tried to sexually assault her on the University of Colorado campus early Sunday morning, the CU Boulder Police Department said Monday.

The woman was walking along University Avenue near 17th Street about 1 a.m., police said. The man walked up behind her, put his arm around her, grabbed her shirt and pulled her to the ground, police said.

The victim told police she was able to fight him off and he ran south toward Macky Auditorium.

The victim described the attacker as a college-age black man, about 6-foot-1, with an average build and a small, shaggy beard and mustache. He was wearing a CU sweatshirt and long pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 303-492-6666 or Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers.

CU NightRide offers free transportation for students, faculty and staff on the main campus, and to or from any point off campus within the city boundaries.
