THORNTON, Colo. -- A former assistant pastor in Thornton is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a girl, beginning when she was 12 years old, the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office said Monday.

Robert Duane Wyatt, 50, is charged with one count of sexual assault on a child, one count of sexual assault on a child as a pattern of conduct and one count of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

Wyatt was an assistant pastor at Agape Bible Church at 8761 Huron St., prosecutors stated. The girl's family attended the church. The head pastor said Wyatt stepped down in July.

The website lists Bob Wyatt as the contact for children's Sunday school program.

Prosecutors said the girl, now 14, reported the conduct had been going on for nearly two years.

Wyatt surrendered to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office on Monday afternoon, prosecutors said. His bond is set at $20,000.

Anyone with information about Wyatt is asked to call the Thornton Police Department til Line at 720-977-5069.
