Man in jail after threatening to kill state senator’s family

hopkinsARVADA, Colo. -- A 21-year-old man was arrested Saturday after police said he sent a violent and threatening message to State Sen. Laura Woods.

Dylan Hopkins allegedly used Facebook to threaten the Republican state senator, the Arvada Police Department said.

Hopkins is in the Jefferson County Jail on a charge of harassment involving the use of a computer.

Hopkins reportedly threatened to shoot Woods in the head.

Woods said she hasn't before faced threats like this during her time serving the state and described the feeling she experienced when reading the post as "terror."

Woods wrote a response on her Facebook page, thanking the Colorado State Department and Arvada Police Department for their quick response to the threat.

Hopkins is scheduled to appear in court on Monday morning.
