DENVER -- Arapahoe County, Cherry Hills Village and Denver have teamed up for long-overdue improvements to the Highline Canal trail.

Detour signs are pushing pedestrians and cyclists into the busy intersection of East Hampden Avenue and South Colorado Boulevard.

But a new deal will use federal funds to build two underpasses at the location, allowing people on the trail to safely cross underneath the roadway.

The project will be finished in late 2018.
