DENVER -- One person was killed and another seriously injured after a motorcycle crash that closed Interstate 25 near downtown early Friday morning, the Denver Police Department said.

The crash happened about 2 a.m. at I-25 and 20th Street. Police said the motorcyclist was going westbound on 20th when he hit a barrier along the ramp that brings drivers onto northbound I-25.

The male driver and female passenger were launched over a fence and landed in the northbound lanes of the interstate.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The female was taken to a hospital in very critical condition.

Police have not said if drugs, alcohol and speed were involved.

Northbound lanes were closed for about two hours as police investigated.
