DENVER -- After a string of recent carjackings in the Denver metro area, the FOX31 Denver Problem Solvers spoke with a tactical expert and the Denver Police Department to explore the different scenarios victims might face.

“The crime of carjacking is one of the more aggressive types of crimes that we see as police officers,” Denver police technician John White said. “It is a trend and it is very concerning to law enforcement.”

It’s a crime of opportunity, White said.

“And that’s part of being aware of your environment and being alert because you never, never know when it could happen to you,” White said.

There is no correct way to react in each of scenario, and each move comes with a potential consequence.

White said the main priority should be to keep yourself safe, noting property can be replaced. It’s also important to get a good description of the suspect, he said.
