ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Broncos were last seen hoisting the Lombardi Trophy after they beat the Carolina Panthers to win Super Bowl 50 in February.
On Thursday, the reigning champions started a new season with the opening of training camp at the team's training facility.
Things will look different on the field since Feb. 7. Quarterback Peyton Manning retired and backup Brock Osweiler left for the Houston Texans. There will be a quarterback battle among veteran Mark Sanchez, second-year player Trevor Siemian and first-round draft pick Paxton Lynch.
The offensive line has been revamped with Russell Okung and Donald Stephenson coming to the Broncos. But the focus again will be on the defense, which carried the team to their third Super Bowl title last season.
Defensive end Malik Jackson and inside linebacker Danny Trevathan left in free agency, but the big star, Von Miller, signed a big contract and is back with outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware as well as probably the top secondary in the league.
Thursday is the first of 15 practices that are open to the public. Each practice goes from 9:30 a.m. to noon and there is no admission charge. Gates open at 8 a.m.
Parking is available first-come, first-serve starting at 7 a.m. at the Pat Bowlen Fieldhouse (13403 Broncos Parkway). Seating is on a grass berm on the west side of the practice facility. No lawn chairs or umbrellas are allowed.
Details on seating and prohibited items are available on the Broncos website.
