2 killed in accident on Highway 85 in Weld County

WELD COUNTY, Colo. -- Two people were killed in a head-on collision at Highway 85 and Weld County Road 70 on Saturday night, the Colorado State Patrol said.

The crash happened about 9:30 p.m. near Lucerne, the Colorado State Patrol said. A third person suffered serious injuries, according to CSP.

Highway 85 was shut down in the area while the crash was investigated.

CSP said the accident was caused when a driver of a truck was traveling south in the northbound lanes when it hit a car head on, killing both drivers instantly.

Officials said they found a bottle of vodka in the truck that caused the accident.

The drivers who were killed have not been identified.
