CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo. -- A woman died Sunday after she fell from a commercial raft in the Browns Canyon area of the Arkansas River, the Chaffee County Sheriff's Office said.

The woman was identified as 51-year-old Sandra Johnson of Littleton.

The sheriff’s office said the raft hit a rock in the rapids, a Class IV rapid section of water, and Johnson was ejected. She was pulled to safety and CPR was started, but those efforts failed and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is the first rafting fatality in Chaffee County of the 2016 season, according to officials.
