7-year-old boy fatally shot during southern Colorado camping trip

LA JARA, Colo. — A 7-year-old boy was fatally shot during a camping trip in southern Colorado, the Pueblo Chieftain reported.

The boy from Albuquerque, N.M., was camping with his family near Stunner Pass when he was shot in the chest early Monday, the Conejos County Sheriff’s Office said. He was pronounced dead at Conejos County Hospital.

The sheriff’s office sought a search warrant to investigate the campsite and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation was brought in to help with the investigation.

The boy’s name has not been released.
