DENVER -- Law enforcement responded to a bear sighting in southwest Denver on Thursday morning.

The bear was seen in the 4800 block of South Ammons Street, nears Wadsworth Boulevard and West Layton Avenue, the Denver Police Department said.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and Colorado Parks and Wildlife have also been brought out in the search.

Officials kept watch on the bear throughout the day. By Thursday evening, two poodles had chased the bear up a tree, where it appeared to be resting.

"It's kinda neat when you see it in the neighborhood," a resident said. "Then you start thinking about that you don't want anything bad to happen."

The Division of Wildlife advises residents to not put out food, secure trash, clean barbecues of food residue and pick fruit off trees before it ripens.
