FRISCO, Texas — A Texas man was not pleased with getting a $220 speeding ticket, but he decided nonetheless to pay it off — all in pennies.

Brett Sanders was ticketed for going 39 mph in a 30 mph zone.

“I didn’t hurt anybody. I didn’t endanger anybody’s life,” he said.

He fought the ticket in court, but lost. He then paid the fine with 22,000 coins, KXAS reported. He used five-gallon buckets to carry the money to the Frisco Municipal Court, where he dumped the coins.

“When my fine came due, I just decided I may as well pay with pennies and we’ll make a big spectacle of it,” Sanders said.

Sanders had the moment recorded as he poured the coins on the counter. The video has been viewed more than 1 million times.

It took city staff three hours to count the coins.

Sanders said dumping the coins felt “great.”
