JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. -- Three teenagers were killed and another teen was injured in a rollover crash on Tuesday afternoon, the Colorado State Patrol said.

Investigators said the crash happened about 4:30 p.m. when a Dodge Dakota pickup going south near 12448 S. Foxton Road went out of control.

"The driver was unable to regain control of the vehicle and the vehicle traveled off of the right side of the roadway," CSP said in a statement said. "After leaving the roadway the Dodge began to roll over as it traveled down an embankment coming to rest in a creek."

The driver and two passengers died at the scene. Another passenger, a 17-year-old from Kansas, was ejected and taken to St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood with serious injuries.

The teenager who was injured was found crawling up the embankment, CSP said.

Investigators believe the boys might have been heading to a campsite because of the supplies they found scattered at the crash scene.

The identities of all four teenagers have not been released. CSP is trying to determine where the three who were killed are from. One had a Colorado driver's license.
