DENVER -- One person died early Monday morning in an apartment fire above a deli, the Denver Fire Department said.

Investigators were still at the scene Monday evening, examining evidence in the fire and death that they called "suspicious."

The fire broke out in a living space above Rosenberg's Bagel and Deli in the Five Points neighborhood near East 26th Avenue and Welton Street.

Seven fire crews responded just after 2:30 a.m. and found the building totally engulfed in smoke, but not so much flames.

Crews went inside and found the victim inside a closet in the living space above the deli.

Fire officials said there was some damage to Rosenberg's, which will be closed Monday.

The name, age and gender of the victim has not not been identified.
