BROOMFIELD, Colo. -- After having their Webelos Weekend camping event trailer stolen from a Broomfield storage lot overnight last week, a group of Boy Scouts is feeling the community spirit.

The trailer was full of priceless equipment and handmade cooking stoves. After FOX31 Denver Problem Solvers aired a story on the theft, the Scouts said some generous viewers and hundreds of community members stepped up to help.

On Saturday, former Eagle Scout and called Assistant Scout Master Ken Kinnard, having watched the news story.

“For somebody to say, 'I want to buy you a new trailer,' it blew me away,” Kinnard said.

The man, who only wanted us to use his first name, Carl, told Kinnard that he could pick up the gift at noon the next day. An hour later, Kinnard drove off in a new $7,000 trailer.

“Right off the lot. Identical. Absolutely identical. Drop-down back door, heavy axles,” Kinnard said.

And the generosity of the Denver metro community didn't end there.

“It’s just absolutely unbelievable the support to scouting and I can't thank everyone enough,” Kinnard said.

At the suggestion of the Problem Solvers, Kinnard set up a GoFundMe page that has raised more than $4,000.

“Start purchasing all the gear that we lost,” Kinnard said of how the money will come in hand. “It will feel really good when I do that on Thursday night with the boys and then Friday morning we head to camp."

The Kiwanis Club is also going to loan the Scouts a large cooking stove for their big weekend trip coming up after Memorial Day. That will help them feed the 600 people going and give them more time to try to replace the handmade stoves that were taken.
