BROOMFIELD, Colo. -- A 25-foot trailer full of equipment to cook for 600 people was stolen from the Boy Scouts.
The theft happened sometime Monday night at a Broomfield storage lot off 118th Avenue and Coleman’s Way.
Ken Kinnard, Assistant Scout Master said the chain link lock was cut, the gates thrown open and a thief or thieves made off with the Boy Scouts' 25-foot “Webelos Weekend Trailer.” The trailer was full of handmade stoves, pots and equipment.
“You know it's depressing, it's a kick in the stomach,” Kinnard said of the theft.
In Boy Scouts there is one motto.
“Be Prepared,” said Ken Kinnard. It's a motto he lives by.
“I’m always accused of being over prepared but it's a lot of fun.” he said with a laugh.
But how do you prepare to have something that’s value is irreplaceable, taken?
“We never dreamed that somebody would steal a Boy Scouts camp cooking trailer that's 20 years old,” he said.
Kinnard said that in just 30 days, the Scouts have their annual camp out where the trailer would help cook for 600 people.
“We work on basically no budget and donations,” he said.
Preparedness is now as real as it gets.
“Plan B, there really was no plan B, we never figured somebody would steal our camp kitchen, there’s really no value to it but we’ll get it,” Kinnard said.
Now, the Scouts are putting their faith in humanity as well.
“I would love for them, if you dump it, give a tip, tell me where it is and Ill go pick it up. Take the trailer, the trailer means nothing to me. Its the sweat equity and all the generous donations,” Kinnard said.
Broomfield Police have been notified but the Scouts are hoping you might keep an eye out for the trailer.
The logos can easily be stripped off but Kinnard said the left side of the trailer shows black wheels. The right side has hubcaps missing so it will show chrome wheels. The license plate is Colorado 201-CZT.
UPDATE: At the suggestion of the FOX31 Problem Solvers, the Boy Scouts have set up a GoFundMe page to handle the outpouring of support they've had from the community since our story on the stolen trailer ran last night.
