HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo -- A large house fire left four people displaced after strong winds caused it to spread quickly.

The fire started on the back deck of the home on Mountain Maple Avenue. Strong winds caused the fire to quickly spread into the house, leaving extensive damage.

The Littleton Fire Department said no one was injured and the wind made it difficult to put out the fire.

“Because it was wind-driven, you can’t open the front door, you have to fight it from the other side because if you open the front door, it would drive the fire through the structure fire,” Littleton Fire Capt. Gene Nagle said.

A neighbor said one person was home at the time. He tried to put out the fire but the wind quickly turned it from a small fire on the deck to a major house fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
