DENVER -- A proposed law that would have made it a crime to pass off a pet as a service animal failed at the State Capitol on Monday.
The bill would have made misrepresenting a service animal a misdemeanor.
Colorado State Sen. Linda Newell co-sponsored the bill after she was outraged by a FOX31 Denver Problem Solvers investigation.
A Colorado company was exposed for selling service animal certifications with no proof of disability required.
Newell said it was a disappointing loss. While a lot of people supported the proposal, the opponents won. The measure failed, 3-2, in committee.AlertMe
