LOS ANGELES — As “American Idol” signs off for the last time Thursday night, fans will remember many of the great and bad moments over the past 15 seasons.

“American Idol” became one of the most successful shows on TV since its 2002 debut and it launched the careers of stars such as Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson.

It also left us wondering what people were thinking after some of the auditions. Here are the top five worst auditions:

General Larry Platt’s original song “Pants on the Ground” — Season 9

Keith Beukelaer sings “Like a Virgin” and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and is called “the worst singer in the world” by Simon Cowell — Season 2

Isadora Furman just didn’t get along with the judges during her audition — Season 6

Mary Roach dishes it back to the judges, calling Paula “prettier than I thought you were.” — Season 4

William Hung’s performance of Ricky Martin’s “She Bangs” catapulted Hung to instant fame, even though it left Cowell wondering “you can’t sing, you can’t dance. … What do you want me to say?” — Season 3

Watch the “American Idol” finale on FOX31 Denver at 7 p.m. followed by a recap on FOX31 Denver News at 9 p.m.
