DENVER -- A former Colorado Avalanche player took the oath to become a U.S. citizen.

Milan Hejduk has been living in Colorado since he left the Czech Republic to play for the Avalance in 1998. Hejduk retired from hockey three years ago but has continued to live in the Denver area.

"It was actually the missing piece of our family because both boys and my wife, they were already citizens," he said. "So I'm the last piece."

Hejduk and his family live in Parker. He now coaches children.
