ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — A man accused of rear-ending a marked Adams County sheriff’s vehicle has been charged with vehicular assault and reckless driving.

The Feb. 13 crash seriously injured Sgt. Aaron Pataluna, who suffered a fractured vertebrae in his neck.

Prosecutors said David Martinez was driving drunk when he hit Pataluna’s patrol vehicle. Martinez is due in court Monday afternoon.

Pataluna said earlier this week he hopes the incident is a learning experience for all drivers.
