DENVER — For the first time, veteran Denver police officer Rachel Eid is detailing her experience being shot in the line of duty. The Denver Police Department tweeted the short video featuring Eid on Sunday night.

Alfonso Padilla was arrested as a result of the incident that ended in Eid being shot, and police shooting and killing another suspect.

Eid has spent her career helping others. She was shot during a burglary call in the Highland neighborhood.

Police said Eid and other officers engaged in a gunfight with 28-year-old Gerardino Gonzales. Police shot and killed him as a neighbor recorded video of Gonzales dead in the street.

A gun was seen near his hand and police believe he used that weapon to shoot Eid in the leg.

Police arrested 26-year-old Alfonso Padilla. Police rushed him away from his partner’s body after the shooting. Witnesses said he blamed police for his brother’s death.

Eid was treated at Denver Health Medical Center.
