EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. -- Classes in Ellicott School District No. 22 were canceled Monday because of what is being called a "threat of significant violence."

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office said the closure is based on a threat posted on social media.

"Threats such as these are taken very seriously," the district said. "We are currently investigating this with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office."

The missed day will be made up at a later date, school officials said.
