QUEVEDO, Ecuador — Transit police in Ecuador noticed a sloth struggling to cross a recently opened highway. An officer stopped his patrol car to check on the “oso perezoso” — translated to “lazy bear” — as they’re known in the area.
The sloth was taken to a veterinarian who specializes in the animals. It was determined to be OK and returned to its habitat.
After the sloth was checked out and found to be OK, the executive director of the Ecuador Transit Commission gave an order that all animals found on streets and highways have to be immediately attended to.
