A water main break on 8th Avenue reduced traffic to one lane as crews worked to repair it.

DENVER —  Traffic was reduced to one lane on 8th Avenue as repairs continued through Friday morning on a water main break.

The call for the water main break, located at 8th Avenue and Delaware Street, came in late Thursday afternoon, snarling traffic on 8th Avenue and Speer Boulevard through the evening and into Friday morning.

The break was reported as being fairly deep, with crews going down to about 11 feet deep to make repairs on the 6-inch diameter break.

Only the rightmost lane of westbound 8th Avenue was open as crews worked through the night.

According to Denver Water, six residential customers and one commercial customer were out of water.

Drivers were encouraged to seek alternate routes. Repairs to the main break will be complete by about noon Friday, according to Denver Water.

Denver Water has not identified the cause of the leak. Many factors can contribute to a main break, including age, pipe material, how corrosive the soil is, water flow and temperature.
