IRS causes confusion with letters regarding PINs

WASHINGTON — A botch letter from the IRS might end up in mailboxes over the next several days.

Because of a typo, almost 3 million taxpayers are receiving identity protection PIN letters with the wrong year listed and it’s causing confusion.

All other information, including the PIN itself, is correct.
