MONTREAL -- Highway department traffic cameras aren't known for capturing great images.

But a Canada DOT camera on Highway 40 in western Montreal, Quebec got some spectacular shots of a snowy owl in flight Sunday. It was almost like the majestic bird wanted to be on camera.

An expert told Gizmodo the young female was most likely looking for a place to perch.

You can see the owl spread her black and white spotted wings as she approaches.

Barbara Frei of the McGill Bird Observatory said snowy owls breed north of the Arctic Circle, where they hunt in the summer.

“They’ll migrate to their ‘winter vacation,’ which can be all the way down to southern Canada, in the Montreal region or places in Ontario.”
