THORNTON, Colo. -- We showed you the moldy mess this woman says was left by a DirecTV installer; Now, a FOX31 viewer steps in to help us solve her problem.
It's been a two year battle for a Thornton mother, who says the shoddy work done by a DirecTV contractor made her son sick and forced them out of their home.
After seeing our story last Friday, several contractors offered to help. We had great offers from several people, but one guy stood out.
He started out by telling he didn't need the publicity. He just wanted to try help her out and right a wrong here at the holidays..
Mark Grassel with ABC Decks Home Improvements cut to the heart of the matter after he saw our story about this molding mess which made her little boy sick and forced Sandy Chantha to move in with relatives.
Mark wanted to see for himself what estimators said would cost $5,000 to fix.
"I just saw the story and it's not that hard to do,” said Mark. “Patch a little dry wall, replace some insulation… What got me was the number that she had gotten for an estimate."
Mark found repairing damage left from a third party satellite installer would not be that expensive.
After we contacted the installer's insurance, they've agreed, after two years now, to work with Sandy to solve the problems.
We asked Mark, realistically, what the cost for the repairs would be.
“Me personally, I’d probably do this for not even 500,” said Mark. “And I see this, I've been this doing home improvements for 30 years roughly and I see this so often.
Mark's jumped on the groundwork and says he can have Sandy and her son back in the house for the new year.
Sandy and Mark are already working out a schedule for him to get that work done starting immediately.
He says he's not charging for the labor.
A spokeman for the subcontractor’s auto-owners insurance out of Lansing, Michigan tells FOX31 Denver they will work to reach a settlement and get Sandy back in her home.
