Many children in the metro area are on free or reduced lunch and receive breakfast at their schools as well. On the weekends these kids don’t have schools to feed them lunch and breakfast. The Backpack Program attempts to fill that gap in food for families in need. Each Friday the child is sent home with a backpack filled with food for the weekend. It looks just like any other backpack, so children aren’t embarrassed about their economic situation.
Every year the Parker Police Department hosts Cram the Cruiser. It is a food drive designed to provide food for the Parker Task Force’s Backpack Program. This year it is on Saturday, Dec. 19, 5-8 p.m. at the Ruth Memorial Chapel. There will be free hot chocolate, a Frozen Princess for pictures and carolers.
