CENTENNIAL, Colo. -- An early-morning fire destroyed a large home that was vacant in the 5200 block of East Nichols Drive on Thursday, the Littleton Fire Department said.

The fire started in the basement just after 4:30 a.m., officials said. It quickly spread to the first and second floors of the home, and numerous crews worked to put out the fire.

The home was sold on Tuesday and no one was inside at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home was declared a total loss.
