WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — A woman who was believed to be a witness in the shooting death of a man in a Walgreen’s parking lot turned herself in to police and was booked on second-degree murder charges Tuesday night, the Wheat Ridge Police Department said.

Police said Wenona Sims Begay, 26, saw her picture through the media after it was captured on surveillance video. During an interview with police, it was determined she was involved in the shooting death of Guled Abdullahi Ige, 24, and was arrested.

Begay is being held at the Jefferson County Jail. Police said a second suspect is still at large, but they have not released his name because the investigation is ongoing.

About 8:15 p.m. Sunday, Ige was shot in the abdomen in the parking lot of a Walgreen’s at West 44th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard and later died at a hospital.

Witnesses said there was an argument among three or four people before the shooting.

Surveillance video captured Begay walking inside the Walgreen’s just after 8 p.m. A few minutes later, she was seen shopping in the cosmetics aisle. Eleven minutes later, she was seen standing next to Ige in the parking lot.

“People had seen the person that was shot talking to this female just prior to him being shot. She left. She was gone on our arrival,” Wheat Ridge police spokesman Mark Cooney said Tuesday.
