LOVELAND SKI AREA, Colo. -- Loveland Ski Area and Arapahoe Basin Ski Area kicked off the 2015-16 ski season Thursday morning.

Loveland announced its opening day on Monday and A-Basin announced Wednesday it would match the opening.

The lifts at both ski areas opened at 9 a.m.

Cold temperatures the past week as well as natural snow helped accelerate A-Basin's opening.

Loveland and A-Basin typically battle it out to see which ski area is the first to open in the state. The ski areas last tied for the opening on Oct. 15, 2008.

Other tentative opening dates:

Nov. 6: Crested Butte, Keystone

Nov. 7: Copper Mountain, Wolf Creek

Nov. 13: Breckenridge

Nov. 15: Winter Park

Nov. 20: Eldora, Vail

Nov. 25: Beaver Creek

Nov. 26: Aspen, Snowmass, Steamboat

Nov. 28: Durango Mountain Resort, Telluride
