COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A former El Paso County sheriff’s deputy has been arrested in connection to the shooting death of his wife, the Colorado Springs Police Department said.

Nikolas Gianes, 31, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of second-degree murder after his wife, 32-year-old Fawn Gianes, was found shot to death Friday, KRDO reported.

Police said Nikolas Gianes was at the scene after the shooting, called 911 and was involved in the disturbance. He is being held without bond at the El Paso County jail.

Gianes was a deputy in the sheriff’s office from 2008 to 2011. He resigned after he was suspected of driving under the influence while off duty.
