DENVER -- It's a plan that could cut down on long waits at the DMV: Outsourcing some of the services to retailers.

Triple A suggested the idea as nearly 20 other states use a similar model.

The outsourcing of some services like new licenses, vehicle registration or renewals to retails could happen if lawmakers have their way.

The bill's sponsor said the DMV wouldn't contract out services, but that is an option that could eventually be on the table.

There is no money to open new DMV offices so this could be the next best thing.

The Department of Revenue, which oversees the DMV, has not taken a position on the proposal.
