CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. — The road to the top of Mount Evans will close for the season on Oct. 5

State Highway 5 from Summit Lake to the top of 14,264-foot Mount Evans normally closes to vehicles the day after Labor Day.

But it stayed open for an extra month this year because of heavy spring snowfall and construction that delayed the opening this season.

The highway normally opens the Friday before Memorial Day weekend for the summer season.
