Suspect arrested in arson, homicide of man found in burned car

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. -- The man suspected in the death of a man whose body was found in a burned car was arrested Wednesday night, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said.

Shawn Geerdes, 46, was arrested at 5:40 p.m. by sheriff's deputies, FBI Safe Streets Fugitive Task Force and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies for the death of Jason Dosa, 44.

He was arrested without incident after being pulled over by law enforcement on Highway 85 north of Meadows Parkway in Douglas County.

Dosa’s body was discovered inside of a burned vehicle on Sunday near 9500 Cougar Road in Jefferson County. An autopsy revealed Dosa also suffered gunshot wounds.

Geerdes was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Detention Facility for first-degree murder and second-degree arson.

According to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records, Geerdes has a history involving criminal mischief, drug possession, domestic violence, damage to property, contempt of court and violation of a protection order, among other criminal offenses.

He is due in court at 10 a.m. Thursday.
