AURORA, Colo. -- Two men were killed in a rollover accident in an RTD construction early Wednesday morning, the Aurora Police Department said.

The crash happened near Peoria Street and 31st Place about 1 a.m. Police said two men were in a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder that was traveling southbound on Peoria when it came to the construction zone.

The vehicle rolled off the roadway and into the area under construction for the RTD Light Rail line.

Both men were not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle, police said. They were taken to a hospital where one was pronounced dead. The second man was in critical condition but later died from his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing as to why the vehicle left the roadway. One man has been identified but it has not been released, pending notification of family.
