DENVER -- Four people are being sough after an armed robbery at a marijuana dispensary in the RiNo neighborhood Sunday afternoon, the Denver Police Department said.

The robbery happened about 1:45 p.m. at RiNo Supply Company, a medical marijuana dispensary near 31st and Blake streets.

Police say three black men went inside the business and robbed the staff at gunpoint. Details about what was stolen are not being released. As they ran out, police say the suspects fired two gunshots.

A witness called 911 thinking someone had been shot, but one of the suspects fell in a nearby alley as he was running away, police said. No one was injured.

Early reports suggested the victims were tied up inside the shop, but Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson could not confirm that.

“This isn’t something we see a lot. Any robbery concerns us. But when it comes to armed robbery, that means you’re using a weapon and the chances that somebody could be hurt definitely increases at that point,” Jackson said.

Marijuana shops are easy targets because they have to deal in cash-only for most sales. Most dispensaries have heavy security.

Police said one of the suspects was wearing a pink or purple dress shirt. Another had on a Pittsburgh Steelers cap. The suspects are thought to have left in two cars, a new silver Mercedes and an old, beat-up Volkswagen minivan.

Anyone with information is asked to call Denver Police Department.
