LONE TREE, Colo. — Two Lone Tree police officers were injured early Friday morning after a car slammed into their patrol vehicles during a traffic stop.

The crash happened on northbound Interstate 25 north of Lincoln Avenue about 12:50 a.m., the Lone Tree Police Department said. As the officers were finishing a traffic stop on the right shoulder, a vehicle driven by a man struck one of the patrol vehicles.

The impact of the crash pushed the patrol car into the back of a second patrol vehicle. Officers were inside both vehicles and were taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor injures. They have been released.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the patrol vehicle was arrested by Douglas County sheriff’s deputies and alcohol is suspected in the crash.

Northbound Interstate 25 was closed for more than an hour as the crash was investigated.
