Grass fire in Golden Gate Canyon fully contained

Black Hawk Ridge Fire.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A grass fire in Golden Gate Canyon forced emergency officials to alert people in a dozen homes to be ready to leave in case flames got too close Friday afternoon.

The fire was reported near 33000 Golden Gate Canyon Road.

Firefighters from several agencies were dispatched to help put out the flames. A helicopter was making water drops as well.

The fire was 80 percent contained by 7 p.m., burning almost 2 acres. Full containment was reached Saturday morning.

Dry, windy conditions were reported in the area late Friday afternoon.

There was no threat reported to any homes.  No cause for the fire has been determined.
