Motorcyclist killed after head-on with stolen Mercedes

A motorcyclist was killed after slamming head-on into a stolen Mercedes in Lakewood on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A motorcycle rider was killed early Thursday morning after slamming head-on into a a stolen vehicle, the Lakewood Police Department said.

The accident happened about 12:50 a.m. at Kipling Street near Exposition Avenue. Police said the motorcycle rider, identified as 26-year-old Konrad Gula of Denver, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes on Kipling when he was hit by the stolen Mercedes-Benz.

Police said the Mercedes was reported stolen from Denver on Aug. 25 and the two teenage occupants got out of the vehicle and fled the scene.

The boy and a girl are being sought by police, which added the two have facial injuries. Police said blood samples were collected at the scene. The teenagers have not been identified.

It’s not known if alcohol or drugs were involved. A toxicology report on Gula is pending.

The southbound lanes of Kipling were closed from Alameda Avenue to Exposition as detectives investigated the crash.
