COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. —  A Colorado Springs Police Sergeant and a bystander helped a mother have her baby on the side of the I-25 on Friday.

Just after 6:30 on Friday night, Sgt. Wrede was flagged down by a man on the North Academy Boulevard exit ramp. The man said his wife was having a baby, and Sgt. Wrede saw that the woman was in labor.

The bystander, who stopped to help, happened to be a Pediatrician with Children’s Hospital in Pittsburg. Dr. Miller was visiting her daughter for Parents Week at the Air Force Academy.

Both the sergeant and doctor helped the mother through labor on the shoulder of the road.  The couple’s daughter, Katrina, was born safely in the front seat of their minivan at 6:39 p.m.

They were transported for to a local hospital.
